Visa debit won't register

JakeM

Hello,

I've tried time and time again to register my Visa Debit card for autopay but every time it doesn't go through. I know it's not a problem with my card, I've used it on a wide variety of other websites and never had any problems, except with Public Mobile.

I noticed there are a lot of other people who have a similar problem. So clearly, the issue is with Public Mobile and its credit card processing system.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of work-around, this is the only card I have that will work on Public Mobile's system.

At the very least, it would be nice to hear that Public Mobile is trying to solve this issue.

I like using Public Mobile, the price is reasonable, the plans work well for me. I am trying to pay money in exchange for this service, it shouldn't be hard.

Hi All,

New unhappy user here. I have just also discovered that international VISA and local VISA Debit cards cant be used. Unfortunately I signed up to a 90 day plan using vouchers at a phone dealer. There are very few of these in Quebec City Canada so recharging is big time inconvenient. Thinking I have wasted my money and should move to Chatr which works with all these payments.

Any suggestions inorder to make this work?

@hopperaus

The vouchers are also available at

  • Esso
  • Shopper's Drug Market
  • Canadian Tire Gas Bar
  • Shell
  • Hasty Market
  • Ultramar
  • Uniprix
  • Walmart
  • WOW Mobile (will activate SIM too)
  • K Mobile
  • Jean Coutu
  • Pharmaprix
  • 7-11

Call ahead and make sure that they have them, ask them to look in their POS (point of sale) system if they are not sure.

You could also try to get a prepaid credit card as mentioned by @stonechucker here: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Paying-for-your-service/Unable-to-pay-with-credit-car...

@hopperaus, For now, you are stuck with vouchers.  Other alternative would be to get a trusted friend (with a local credit card) to help you out until you can get a card of your own.

This will be fixed eventually (I hope), but who knows when.

So, getting back to the actual ask:  @JakeM unfortunately, as @Shazia_K mentioned, this is a limitation of PM's payment systems at the moment.  Like Shazia mentioned, until that gets resolved, you can either purchase payment voucher(s) at a local vendor using your Visa Debit card, or use a non-debit Visa or MasterCard if you have access to another card.  Hopefully you have a voucher vendor located nearby?

Hi @Jake_M,

I was reading the entire thread. Until you made mention of patronizing advice and how it makes asking for advice a negative experience, the preceding never crossed my mind. If someone used an insulting term, I could understand how you could regard asking as uncomfortable. By reacting as you did to wise advice, you may find that your future questions go unanswered, considering that the responder might be chastised by you.

Food for thought.

My intention certainly wasn't to be patronizing, I was just trying to bring to light something that someone could easily overlook. And I figured that it was a fairly easy to verify, and therefore a cheap piece of advice for someone such as yourself to explore.

I would hope that you'd realize that some people may not be as knowledgeable as yourself, and I have absolutely no way to gauge how knowledgeable you are from a few lines posted on a forum.

I understand now that you are perfect; therefore, I digress and extend my deepest apologies.

@JakeM Sorry to hear about the issue. Like Shazia said, they will hopefully resolve this soon. Please remember that almost everyone you will interact with on the community (unless their profile displays the PM logo) will be another PM customer just like you. We are trying to help on a best-effort basis, but none of us has all the answers. Though I sometimes like to pretend like I do...it's fun 😉

Hello @JakeM,

We are a united community trying to help each other, trying is always enough.

@clogan2 did not post a unhelpful comment he tried to assist you in the best of his knowledge, if his comment did not help you, you can always wait for another member to respond or use my suggestion above.

I understand this can be very inconvenient at this moment, but rest assured that we are working very hard to provide the best to our customers.

Thank you,

Shazia

What patronizing advice. As I mentioned in my post, I have used this card on many websites without issue. If the problem was that I didn't know my own address, I think it would have come up before. In fact, just to make sure I copy and pasted my address from my online banking into the Public Mobile system when registering my card.

Comments like yours aren't helpful, they make asking for help on Public Mobile's site a negative experience.

I would urge you to verify your address with your bank, and ensure that matches the address that you have on file with Public Mobile. Often times your bank will not approve a charge if your address does not match.

Hello @JakeM,

I'm very sorry to hear about this inconvenience, this is actually a known issue and we're working very hard in getting this resolved as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, you can use payment vouchers click here to find the nearest merchant to you. You can also use a regular Visa or MasterCard.

Again, sorry about this.

Thanks 🙂

Shazia
