Using data in Europe

  • I plan to go during summer in few EU member states. My current plan has data but no roaming. I understand that roaming is available only for US and Mexico.  Can I use my data in EU if I am connected there to wifi? I need to receive the "2 step verification" notifications from the banks and internet data is the only solution, as the banks use only the phone for that purpose. Thank you.

@CatalinT

yes, no roaming in Europe and hence you won't be able to receive 2FA text when you are there

All banks offers other ways to receive 2FA such as:

  • RBC: App Push approval
  • TD: SMS, Voice call, TD Authenticator
  • Scotia: App Push approval, SMS, Voice call
  • BMO: SMS, Email
  • CIBC/Simplii: App Push approval, SMS, Voice Call, Email
  • National: SMS, Email
  • Desjardins: App Push approval, SMS, Voice Call, Email
  • Laurentian: SMS, Email

Check with your bank to see if you can change the 2FA the one that suit your need.  Anything that allows access with local Wifi or local data will work

No you won't be able to receive 2fa through sms. You can connect to wi-fi only for internet but 2fa is through sms which you won't receive.
