Hi @lawfoa ,

I know this is very frustrating, and sorry to hear it. 😞

Hopefully, one day these can be prevented.

If you are an Android user check under:

-Settings

-Call

-Call Blocking & Decline with message

-Private numbers (is this ON or OFF)?

Do you see any other settings on your phone about blocking numbers?

If there are setting to block numbers it is probably there to block numbers that are considered SPAM or "Not Trusted" numbers.

Public Mobile offers Call Blocking 🙂 Here's the help article on how to use it.

Thanks @Catherine_T

So Public Mobile provides a Call Blocking feature instead of providing a UNCB feature.

Although, of course, all Canadian carriers use "Bellcore FSK" Caller ID system - along with the block/unblock codes which are defined and embedded as part of that system. So now I don't understand why the CRTC even bothered to pass a regulatory mandate to "all Canadian carriers" which could technically be ignored by every one of them. Nor why some of these Canadian carriers would implement UNCB while others would not.

Hi @Catherine_T , that's a rather different type of blocking.  FYI, here's the feature that is under discussion in this thread, courtesy of PM's direct competitors' websites:

My understanding is that the CRTC mandated that all Canadian carriers implement a UNCB system no later than 19 Dec 2019. Required. Not optional.

And most Canadian carriers do indeed proudly advertise their UNCB. Bell, Virgin, Lucky, Rogers, Fido, Chatr, Freedom. While Telus, Koodo, and Public conspicuously do not - I can't find any information about their UNCB (or lack thereof) anywhere in public domain.

Hi Korth!

Just quoting the CRTC mandate you linked here: "This mandate will not apply to those Canadian carriers and other TSPs providing voice telecommunications services that implement call filtering solutions within the time frame prescribed for the implementation of universal network-level call blocking."

Public Mobile offers Call Blocking 🙂 Here's the help article on how to use it.

Hope this was helpful!

No, Public Mobile does not offer this service (at least to my knowledge).. Some information that I have found says that Telus uses an opt-in feature. Public Mobile has no opt-in option available in the self serve account for this. This would be a question to specifically ask Public Mobile how to opt-in.  @Catherine_T : Can you provide some insight?

Some information about this is here:

https://www.canadianresearchinsightscouncil.ca/canadas-telecom-companies-to-implement-universal-call...

"Telus has stated that it will offer an opt-in call filtering option, rather than universal call blocking. Callers to Telus customers opting in to this feature will be required to enter a number on their keypad to proceed. This would block all robocalls and would result in blocking of robocalls for legitimate purposes including emergency notices from school boards and calls for marketing research purposes. It would also prevent access to services such as collect calls and text to landline."

Happy to top-up 🙂 Public Mobile does not have "Universal Network Call Blocking" specifically; however, we do offer Call Blocking. Here's the help article on how to use this feature.

Hope this helps!
