Hello,
I apllied this public mobile number 2 weeks ago, and today when the building manager tried to add my phone number in Intercom (So that the buzzer number on my front door will connect directly to my phone, it helps me to open the door by phone since I don't have a buzzer system in the room), it shows that my number is a long distance number, which means it might not be in Vancouver, but I did apply it in downtown, the phone number starts with 778, I don't know what happened, is it something wrong with Public mobile service? Thanks.

And Abbotsford is traditionally long distance from the city of Vancouver.

All 778 201 calls come from a Cell Number operated by TELUS Mobility and are located in the city of Abbotsford in BC.

@boyce922 if, as mentioned, it comes down to you having to change your number. You can do so in your self serve account.
Public Mobile allows one change per 30 days.

A 778 phone number is not exclusive to the lower mainland calling area. It is in Kelowna too etc. Perhaps you chose the incorrect area that is attached to your 778 number.

This is what I got from Wikipedia as Vancouver exchange for 778
Does your number start with any of the 3 listed?
Maybe if you change to a new number that starts with any of the 3 numbers listed you'll be able to use it with intercom

As with just about everywhere...in this case 778 is province-wide. What do you mean "I did apply it in downtown"? Those intercoms will be sensitive to the old-timey local area calling.

Your building ownership is either disallowing the intercom system to call long distance numbers or that's how the system is deisgned.
If your phone number is not really long distance to call from Vancouver, that's something your building management is going to have to take up with their telephone carrier. Public Mobile would have no control of that.
However, my bets are on the fact that you phone number might not be a Vancouver number. What are the 3 digits after the area code? The city that the phone number belongs to can be check at the CNAC website.

@boyce922 the 778 area code has been in BC since 2001. What happens when you dial other local numbers without the 1 in front of the number?

@boyce922 It's not the 778 that's likely the problem, but rather the 3 digits following that. For instance, I too have a 778 number, but the 3 digits following that are an Abbotsford number, therefore anyone calling me from Maple Ridge, BC, via landline, would have to dial a long distance number.
02-11-2020 06:43 PM
@boyce922 Not sure how that system works, but have you tried adding 1 in front of the number?
