US Roaming add-on more stable when set to LTE

Bought the Unlimited U.S. Talk, Text and 3GB Data Bundle for two phones and travelled to San Diego area.

One older phone that doesn't have 5G feature worked right away. It connected to AT&T at LTE automatically. Connection was always good for the whole trip without any issue.

Another phone that have 5G connected to T-Mobile at 5G by itself. It worked on and off. Once manually set to LTE, it switched to AT&T automatically and no more disconnections.

Not too sure if it's because the add-on bundle was only for 3G, or 5G networks in the States are still not yet ready.

AT&T 5G doesn't work. TMobile 5G does, but if it's switching between AT&T and TMobile 5G you'll run into this issue. It's best to just leave your phone on 4G/LTE when in the US (as you said).

Didn't use voice a lot and couldn't tell if switching to LTE was needed. Voice worked after switching to LTE, as there was a spam call LOL.

I wasn't clear on my last post. When connected to T-Mobile at 5G automatically, data was going on and off. Once switched to LTE, data was good.

@yarc  Data and text should be fine , the big thing is if your account /phone has voLTE for voice
