My kid is traveling to NYC this weekend and want to get them the Unlimited U.S. Talk and Text Bundle add-on, but am reading about a ton of issues with not being able to call or text.   Not travelling with them and thefore will be unable to troubleshoot if they run into issues.   They have a Moto G Fast (2019) so not sure if it is going to work.

Motorola G Fast is not VoLTE whitelisted with PM and hence you have to rely on T-Mobile's 2G network, which is problematic

However, you can use VoIP app to make calls as long as data works of your kid has Wifi.  Consider download VoIP app like TextNow or Fongo and make and receive calls using the app

Of course, kids these days likely use Whatsapp, iMessage to make app calls as well

@dmbcanada1867  yes there are few stories with US service not working.  Unfortunately it's a hit or miss. 

Most important is that the phone must be VoLTE enabled or 4G voice.

The phone would need be be 4G/LTE and connect to T-Mobile or AT&T.   

If calls don't work, put phone to 2G and connect to T-Mobile. From the settings menu, turn on data roaming.

Reboot might be needed. Turn off auto connect to connection to a network.

It shouldn’t be an issue as long as Roaming  is enabled and the phone is connected to the AT&T or T-Mobile network. They might have to manually connect to these networks if it is an issue.
