Transferring accounts

I currently have 2 lines with Public Mobile. One plan has 4GB/90 days while the other has 12GB. I wanted to port the number on my 12GB account to Koodo, and port the 4GB number to the 12GB account. I want the 4GB account cancelled. Is there any way to do this without the wrong account getting cancelled. Much appreciated.

I would say can't be done.

There is a process called triangle swap that carriers have in the past done.  It involves the carrier internally moving the phone numbers around to achieve the desired effect.  But even if they are capable of doing it (and most carrier customer service representives either didn't know how to do it or weren't allowed to), good luck in getting the carrier agree to it.  I believe I have also read that some carriers have made policies prohibibiting this, likely due to the technical nature of swapping 2 different phone numbers with each other's accounts.

As for trying to achive all this yourself:  Once again, not possible - sorry.

Since you appear to have a desire to keep the plan with the 12GB of data per 90 days, you'll need to realize that once you port that phone number out to Koodo, you also lose that 12GB plan.  You'll need to decide which you value more:  that 12GB plan or the ability to take that phone number over to Koodo.

I believe that the closest you're going to get what you're asking for involves porting the phone number with the 12GB plan out to Koodo, but then just changing the plan on your remaining Public Mobile account.  You would need to choose a plan that includes more than your current 4GB data, but unfortunately, you will need to choose from plans that Public Mobile currently offers.

The way I can see that this could be done, based on this information:

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/How-do-I-port-out-my-number-and-still-kee...

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Self-Serve/Porting-a-number-from-PM-to-PM/m-p/163972/...

Account A to be kept / number a to be ported out

Account B to be closed / number b be assigned to account a

* Open Account C with Number c

* Contact mods and ask to transfer number a to account C

--> random number d will be assigned to Account A

--> number c is lost

* Port out number a,

--> account C is closed,

--> keep Account B / number b and account A / number d

* Wait 30 days after first number change in Account A - you are only allowed one number change per 30 days

* Contact mods and ask to transfer number b to account A

--> number d is lost

--> account B will be closed

Cost to keep both numbers and port one out: $20+tax to open account C plus the cost of maintaining account B for an additional 30days. (cheapest option text only plan for 30 days, account B needs to be open for an additional 30 days to allow for the number change rule)

Edited to clarify details

Hello lalit1234,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Unfortunately, there is no way to swap phone numbers between two Public Mobile account. Thank for your understanding.

@lalit1234

This post from @Luddite (which is the same situation as yours, correct?)  supports @mimmo's and @will13am's suggestions.

However, Shazia's post on the second page here is indicating that the mods are not able/allowed to do straight PM to PM number swaps.

Edited... My initial thoughts might have applied the wrong answer to the scenario. Sorry.

This was the post I was trying to dig up but could not locate it.  Good job finding it.

@mimmo

I do understand the technical side of it!

You'd need the third account to swap the two existing PM accounts/numbers before porting out one of the existing numbers.

But if you read here: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Self-Serve/Porting-a-number-from-PM-to-PM/m-p/164233/... ... It could be a policy thing?

Yes mods can not  do a direct swap, but they can port pm to pm that is why you need a 3rd account (plan and sim)

Accounts a, b ,c

C = A (a gets a new number)

A = B ( b gets a new number)

B= C   (c gets a new number)

This reminds me of swapping variables in coding 101.

I think you will require to get a third temporary pm account. I believe the process is as follows:

Account 1, account 2 and account 3

Basically:

Account 3 gets account 1 number and a new temporary number

Account 1 then is assigned accounts 2 number

Then you can freely port account 3 number to the other provider.

You can ask the moderator team to swap numbers between the two plans.  It is totally doable.
