Ported home telephone number from Bell - a landline not a cell #

How does this work (number is still active with Bell) - will it just automatically port over and the landline will disconnect and my cell will be working?  What is the general time frame for this?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

P

Yeah unfortunately while a cell is basically instantaneous and no longer than a couple hours usually landline is a longer wait.

@PeterG2  - What old phone sim are you talking about? If you are porting a Bell landline to a current Public Mobile account you already have, then you can still continue to use the same SIM card.

I also ported a Bell landline number over to Public Mobile a couple years ago through the activation pages using Bell's account number, name on account etc.

You don't need to let them know ahead of time -UNLESS you have other bundles services with them (tv, internet). Porting out the landline in a bundled package may end up costing you more.

So if this is the case, discuss your options before you port the number.

Landline/voip ports can take 3+ days.

Expect a mix of services on the landline and Public Mobile SIM card until port is complete.

When the incoming calls stop on the landline, that is a good indication the port is complete.

@PeterG2 3 to 5 business days, depends on the complexity and how fast the source provider give the number over (in your case , Bell), it is not really PM to control the time.  But Bell usually is on the quicker side of this timeline

You can keep using your cell phone to make OUTGOING calls only.  Incoming calls will be going to your Bell number still.

If you want to have full incoming and outgoing calls during the process, you will have to pick a temporary number first.   Once fully activated, you can then login to My Account and request porting there.  In this case your have a working phone for incoming and outgoing calls on the temp. number

No, technically you cannot switch back.  Once it is ported, your Bell account will be closed.   But with Bell, they might call you back for some Winback offer , but that is a different story

@PeterG2   Yes, you just need to include porting request in Step 2 of the Activation.

You don't do anything with your Bell line.  It has to be active.  You don't need to tell them and definitely DO NOT close

the account.  Account must be active to port over.  Provide the Bell account number there

Also, please note that it takes longer to port a landline, could be 3 to 5 business days
