Sharing my experience in rural AB areas

danlee

Past few weeks, my family and i were in Banff, lake louise, AB.  I was pretty impressed with PM reception.  I was able to make calls in most areas and reception was good, no intermittent (e.g. Lake Louise top of the mountain, Chateau Fairmont, Banff campground).

Keep up the good work PM!!

Sorry for my late reply.

I wish i can stay in Lake Louise and not come back with a pile of workload. Lol...

You are Right, my hubb is on Sasktel and at times, his reception is not as good as mine.  Wohoo... 😄

This is really no surprise... any service off the Telus network (i.e. Telus, Koodo, PM, PC Mobile monthly) in Alberta should be superior, since the network was built out in the 1980's back when it was AGT Mobility (Alberta Government Telephones... for anyone old enough to remember!).  They built out a lot of the infrustracture that is used even today.  It was pretty much the only real choice for wireless phones in rural Alberta, especially in the oilfield, etc.

Can't ignore services that run off Rogers' network as well (i.e. Rogers, Fido, chatr, Speakout, etc.), as AT&T Cantel (back in the day, before it became Rogers) was also building out a great network (but in the later 80s and early 90s if I remember correctly).  AGT had some advantages though, likely in the form of land/infrustructure access...

@danlee Thanks for sharing your experience, and thanks for making me jealous of your "Lake Louise top of the mountain", must have been amazing views, and that cool fresh air.  I can only imagine.  Smiley LOL

But don't be too surprised about the reception because PM is owned by Telus which means they use the same cell towers.  Also, Telus is pretty much King of the castle in the Western region of Canada so I'm pretty sure you'd be able to even get reception above the clouds, lol.

Totally not in Public Mobile's control, but I have also had that same experience in the USA...with any carrier. It seems like I don't get very good signal all the way from Idaho until Minnesota. Montana, North/South Dakota, Wyoming don't have large rurual coverage unless you are with Verizon.

The only time I've had reception issues with PM was in the US where T-mobile and AT&T (their American partners) don't have towers mostly in Wyoming. But to be fair the PM coverage map was completely accurate if I had only checked it before I purchased the add on.

Yeah, PM should function great where Telus performs great...since they are the same network. I find PM has a great advantage in the rural areas compared to the competition.

Thanks for the heads up. Passed through that area in 2015 and looking to go back soon, so good to know and now that I'm changing to Canada wide calling, even better.
