Service while in europe

I understand cellular service is not available with public mobile in Europe but can I still receive texts and emails while connected to the internet?

I still say public would benefit to work out international roaming, not for free but a paid add on. Have US only be what it is now, and then another higher priced add-on set for international (which would also allow US but more too)

We know it's possible, as it's a thing with telus and koodo.

That's been my only "beef" service wise since starting here (well and the new nightmare website, but as far as direct service use that's my only complaint)

Another idea is the possibility of a 1 day add on, for people taking day trips to the US for example, rather than having to buy 9 extra days for no reason. Or make it so those 9 other days rollover for whenever, when no US usage is detected upon return, that'd be cool too! So you go over there for 2 days, home second day and you've got 8 other days to use, whenever, as soon as roaming is detected. Even 7 days if you're home after midnight and it takes those few hours as a whole day, still totally worth it

I know, probably all fantasy but it would be nice. For those wishing to not have to use a different WiFi number, Especially since newer, even new ish devices, inserting a different Sim can perform a factory reset to install that carriers stuff (or at least it has for me) potentially losing your data

Anyway, yeah just mobility fantasizing lol

Your email is a gmail or hotmail I am assuming? Either way you can access basically any email account via data or wifi if you have it set up but the rest of those things as stated you will have to use one of the alternatives above.

The SMS text messaging specifications don't allow for use through the internet.

No one asked what kind of phone you have.

In Europe:

1. You cannot receive texts from the cellular side.

2. You CAN do email with wifi.

3. You can receive/send iMessages with wifi, if you have an iPhone.

4. You can do an audio only FaceTime too, if you have an iPhone. .

NOTE: FaceTime and iMessage only works amongst Apple products

You can get a voip Account as suggested.

You can try voip.ms along with the Zoiper  APP any where in the world with wifi.

I had money on my voip.ms left after I took my land line number away from them. I can call any where I like when using wifi and give the caller ID of my PM number. Not saying all their LD is cheap but can use voip.ms on wifi vs buying a PM add-on. There is an option to get $10 off voip.ms as well.

Unfortunately no text or email in Europe but you can use WhatsApp and if your family and friends are also have WhatsApp, you can use it through wifi.

No cellular service means no access to the network, no talk, no text, no data.

Download the free app called TextNow. Using wifi you'll be able to call / text most any US or Cdn number. If you buy a European data plan, that will also work the TextNow app.
