Service at Telus/Koodoo kiosk at Alexis-Nihon Plaza

Sharing my experience: I purchased my SIM card at this kiosk so I would not wait to get it by mail. The service provided by the agent there was pleasant and efficient and explained the different plans offered by PM.

She also offered to activate my account to my surprise as I understood that PM was a DIY and that I was to buy the SIM and set it up at home on my own. Unfortunately, I did not have my Rogers account info with me so the transferring and activation could not be done there. My thinking is that I may have avoided porting issues, delays and countless calls with Rogers if she could have completed it there. So for future migrators, have your information handy!

My transfer of phone number from Rogers was smooth.  The entire process of setting up with PM was without glitch, from getting SIM by mail to finalizing setup

And a lot of the information required and security/id authentication questions, one can obtain via stolen snail mail, a hacked account or lost USB drive or a cell phone and its storage. *groan*

Thanks for enlightening, @computergeek541 !

Unfortunately, yes, someone who finds your phone can port if having your information. However, it actually gets worse than that. IMEI is considered proper proof that a number port is authorized. As the phone will tell the person what you phone number is, all the person would then need to know to port your phone number to any carrier is your name.

Indeed re: correspondance with Moderator Team - however that was expected in my research about PM service being mostly online and self-serve.

What really took a lot of time was dealing with Rogers.  Also my complication was that I had lost my Rogers phone and SIM so could not get the porting text validation. But a kind person at PM gave me a pep talk on how to deal with Rogers (and she was on the mark about how it will take many tries!) and she laughed at my jokes. lol.

Anyway despite the run around with Rogers (called in 5 times, dealt with 6 agents), yeah, it is easy to port. This is disconcerting a bit to me as I am a bit paranoid about security and at the same time ignorant about the process. 😉

It's not hard for you port a number in now. You'll only need to open a moderator ticket to ask them to do it.   The actual amount of time you spend doing this is actually about the same. The creation of your Community account will probably take up more of your time than making the porting request, and it's recommended that customer create that account anyway.  Picking a random number would have been a little quicker for the store to activate your account anyway, although it's probably only a difference in time fo a minute or two. The largest amount of time now for a number port request will probably be spent waiiting for a moderator to reply.

@sunken_dee....

welcome to Public Mobile. See if any of your friends or family members also have a PM account. Use their referal code when you activate and you'll get a $10 credit on your new account within 72 hours and your refer'er will get $1 Refer-a-Friend Reward whenever their account renews.

Absolutely @sunken_dee, especially the Account Number - a crucial piece of info for porting.
