@Diana23 , for eSIM to work on your phone try this below which worked for my iPhone. 

Reboot your phone.

In cellular settings make sure that “Turn On This Line “ (for iPhone ) is selected. (I am not positive where the setting is on a different phone to turn it on, possibly ‘Turn on your eSIM under Mobile Network’), reboot your phone. (You may need to reset network settings then reboot)

Did you transfer your number from old provider?

Did you activate your account? You need PM app for a final step of activation.

Don't touch the esim just yet!
Had you intended to bring your old number over? Did you reply to a confirmation text on the old sim?

Adding - did you set the esim to be the active service?

Try reinstalling sim card, resetting network settings, rebooting phone.
