Inserted SIM card but phone says there is no SIM card. Yes, it is facing the correct way. Any suggestions?

Try rebooting your phone by powering it off then reseat the SIM then power back on your phone.

got a phone with dual sim slots ? If so...try the second slot.
What make / model is your phone ? Is it a North American variant or from elsewhere ?

@DG3gig is it a new activation?? it is possible a sim card provisioning problem. Do you have another phone to test??
