Right. So never mind the Telus sim. You can simply move the Public sim from the old phone into the new phone. You might need to carefully remove a frame piece to get the smaller size.
As for contacts and texts, no those don't generally transfer over unless the new phone has a transfer function. There is sometimes an option to save contacts onto the sim and be movable that way but the contact information can be truncated or not as much of the contact information like multiple numbers or custom fields.
Texts might have an ability to save to the sim and move them that way but maybe not all phones or operating systems or apps.
None of this information is usually stored on the sim. It can. But usually not. Taking the sim out does not remove texts and contacts. Those are all stored on the phone. They won't be deleted.
There are no stupid questions. 🙂

Thank you for your reply 🙂 A "prepaid" Telus SIM card was included in the new flip phone box. My service on my old Samsung is with Public Mobile. I am okay with manually inputting my contacts into my new flip phone, rather than taking the old SIM out of the old phone. I want to be able to cancel the PM service on the old phone, transfer the PM service to the new phone, but keep the contacts and the text messages that I already have on my OLD phone -- you see, I do not want them to be deleted. I am afraid that if I move the old SIM card from the old phone into the new phone, I shall lose those text messages. I would like to keep them on the old phone (for my personal record), but I am afraid that if I no longer have service on the old phone, those text messages will be deleted. Can you direct me...? Answer any of my stupid questions?

What do you mean "has telus sim card"? Do you have service now with Telus? On that phone? Public is a subsidiary of Telus but they have their own labeled sims.
Have you gone through any of the sign up steps? Is that "new" cellphone running the Android operating system? You need the Public app to finish signing up. Or install the app on someone elses phone just for the finishing and then they can remove it when you're done.

@rita_55 ,
For your own privacy and security please remove your phone number from your post, do not post any private information here due to this is a public / open forum.
“We are all Customers here that help each other when we are able to but we do not work for Public Mobile!”
Edit: Good catch @dust2dust , I somehow missed that!
@rita_55 , I just realized you stated that your phone has a Telus SIM Card, Public Mobile can’t help you with Telus services! Sorry.
