I purchased a Public Mobile sim card at the Telus store. The sim card is written Public Mobile on it, but when i enter the number to register, it tells me that the number is not valid.

Can you share a bit more info with us? Are you just signing up with Public Mobile or are you already a member and just purchased a new SIM card? I understand the title said "Registration" however that could be new registration or just registering a new SIM card. A few versions of context there could be thought of.
Note, there are 20 digits on a Public Mobile SIM card. Make sure you get them all right in order. Sometimes we can miss a number and not know it.

did you login your My Account and go to Profile to update the sim card number?
or ask PM to help to update and confirm.
