Reactivate account and get same number

Hello, I recently discovered my phone service was terminated and am desperate to get my number back, any assistance is greatly appreciated!! It is connected to my MFA/2FA for banking and many online accounts, hoping to get in contact with anyone at Public Mobile and if by the biggest grace they can help me I’ll pay them any fee they want.

I have been travelling internationally since December and in Feb/March I had credit card fraud and had to get issued a new card with the old/original one being cancelled. I was still paying my phone bill with my original card and when that was cancelled it was fully my mistake for not updating Public Mobile billing info so only today did I happen to try to log into my account online and it force directs me to buy a new subscription, took me a bit to figure out it was likely terminated.

The phone, with the SIM in it, is still in Canada and I asked my family to check it. The phone says sim not recognized and when they call it - the message is out of service.

The MFA/2FA for Public Mobile still tries to send a text to my number so I’m hoping that means it is still attached to my account somehow, because I don’t know exactly how long it has been since the payment was denied, as I was on a 3month billing plan (but I am assuming the worst that the 90 days has passed).

I figured it wouldn’t hurt so I bought a new SIM card and plan on the app today and shipped it to my family’s house. Really hoping there’s no new phone number to pick and it’s just going to use my existing one.

Posting here as I was unable to even open a proper ticket or access any part of my prior existing account. Did a bit of searching but didn’t find anything positive or actionable in the results. Hoping for some good news!

Thank you for the link to direct message the agent.

I’ve had the number for a long time so the number and gone from Bell > Virgin Mobile > Telus > Koodo > Public Mobile (2020).

I have family helping me in Canada, they went to a Bell store to try and sign up the number in their name while I am away. Bell told them they can request the number but it is not fully released, they said Telus has it. Today I called Telus, they said Koodo still has the number and transferred me over. Koodo found my account and confirmed they cannot do anything with the number because Public Mobile has it, they confirmed the date I switched to Public Mobile in 2020. So a lot of results online and the replies here say it should have gone back to the original carrier but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Since Public Mobile doesn’t have a number to call I have sent them a message and will post an update here later if I am able to retrieve the number.

Your number has long gone and has been returned to the carrier you originally got the number from so you need to contact them. Otherwise pick a new number.

If your regular plan went unfunded and Suspended for 90 days… it was automatically deactivated. Now you need a new sim or esim to start over but you likely won’t get the old number back.
