Just wondering what exactly is the difference between fraudulent SIM swapping and fraudulent phone number porting? Does Public Mobile have any safeguards against fraudulent phone number porting in addition to the SMS? A security PIN could would be helpful

In theory if someone was to fraudulently try to port my phone number from Public Mobile, could they do it without me replying "Yes" to the SMS?
@Aq100500 When did you transfer your number from Speak Out to PM? The SMS authorization was only introduced a few months ago, so maybe you ported in before the change in policy?

This won't happen on PM if you ever need to port away the number from PM. PM needs your text approval to release your number to a new provider
Your experience was a SpeakOut issue and you need to confirm with SpeakOut. However, I think there were ex-SpeakOut customers confirmed that they need to reply YES to port. Again, please check why SpeakOut
and no worry, PM needs your YES reply to port your number away

SIM Swap is to change the physical SIM. PM will update the SIM number on the account and the new SIM will be the SIM receiving the calls and text
Number porting is to move the number from one provider to another
For SIM swap, there is a 2FA process , customer need to receive a code via SMS or email to have the SIM change to go ahead
for porting, PM, like all providers do with porting, will send a text to confirm if user allow the number to be ported away
