I keep getting text messages about getting rid of 3g but I was on 5g and I subscribed to 4g for a cheaper plan. I'm still getting calls about my account being removed, as 3g is no longer going to be here, but I'm on 4g. Should I be worried?

Just know that what works on one provider might not work on another.
Ask her to give you the IMEI and check it out on that link given to you earlier.

If your getting a new phone, purchase it from a reputable store like Walmart, Costco or bestbuy.ca/ best buy. They usually allow you to return it within 14 days. Ask them first if you can do a full return if you don't like it.
Then check the imei of the phone to see if it will be compatible here.

hi @Angela1970
get a Moto from Costco, they always have some good one
stay away from those non major brands , they usually don't work well in PM

I am not sure, it isn't a Samsung though, just a smart phone, brand new though.

hi @Angela1970
yes, your phone is a problem. Note 9 might have VoLTE but it is not compatible with PM's system. You need a newer phone, at least Samsung S22 and newer.
or let us know what phone you are planning to get

I currently have a Samsung Note 9, I will be getting a new phone this weekend. I've had my phone for 6 to 7 years it was brand new back then.

hi @Angela1970
it is not your plan but your phone that matters
what phone do you have?
and are you in Manitoba?
Telus is refarming all of their 850 to 10 MHz LTE B5 in their markets, mainly BC, AB, Windsor, Ottawa, GTA area Montreal, Quebec City. Bell has not done this, so it won't affect area that has Bell networks which Telus/PM use
So, if your phone has only 850 Band 5 on the phone but lacks 1900 Mhz, if your phone were bought from another country, or an imported model, then you might be impacted with no 3G voice service at all
On the other hand, if the phone has 1900 Mhz, or it is a Canadian/US model, it likely won't be impacted as much but the voice calls quality might still degraded

Eventually you will have to change your phone yes, especially if you live in Monitba.
The 3G is about your phone not your plan, the 4G and 5G refers to the speed that you access the internet. They are referring to making calls with a 3G phone which the 3G will be disconnected soon in Monitba by the end of the year and rest of Canada within 2 years.
You will experience dropped calls, no calls etc.
