Possible to transfer an American number?

I am wondering if it is possible to switch a phone from an American plan to Public Mobile and keep the same phone number?

Canadian telephone copmpanies are not allowed to port in a U.S. phone number.  There isn't a system in place for it.

I believe you can only port Canadian numbers to Canadian accounts, but will be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.

If you want to keep your US number you would need to check with your provider if there is an option to forward your calls to your Canadian number.

No.  However, you can get something like magicjack,  port that american phone number to magicjack, and then forward that newly ported US magicjack number to your public mobile number.  If you need to make calls using that magicjack number, use the magicjack app, and that will use your data, or wifi, depending what you are connected to.
