It appears that if you have a Sasktel number in a community that has a Telus presence porting is no problem. (I played around porting numbers from several such communities) If your Sasktel number is from a community without the Telus presence as I am, on line porting does not work and the following message is displayed when checking the number on page two of the activation process:
We were unable to transfer the phone number you entered. Try one of the following options:
- Make sure you entered your number correctly.
- Select a new number.
- Contact the Public Mobile Community for further assistance.
I wish to continue using my present number. There has to be a way to make this work.

It's all based on which carriers are present in each city or "Rate Centre". If Telus isn't listed for a given rate centre where SaskTel is, then a port to Telus Mobility/Koodo/Public Mobile is not possible.
This site is the authority of which companies are present in each rate centre: http://cnac.ca/co_codes/co_code_status.htm
For example, look at Rosthern, SK:
NPA | CO Code (NXX) | Company | OCN | Status | Rate Centre |
306 | 212 | SaskTel Mobility | 9868 | In Service | Rosthern |
306 | 223 | SaskTel | 8091 | In Service | Rosthern |
306 | 232 | SaskTel | 8091 | In Service | Rosthern |
306 | 349 | TELUS Mobility | 8303 | In Service | Rosthern |
306 | 406 | Rogers Communications Canada Inc. (Wireless) | 8821 | In Service | Rosthern |
639 | 375 | Distributel | 081E | In Service | Rosthern |
639 | 388 | Iristel Inc. | 154E | In Service | Rosthern |
639 | 396 | Iristel Inc. | 154E | In Service | Rosthern |
639 | 426 | Bell Mobility | 6574 | In Service | Rosthern |
639 | 439 | Access Communications Co-operative Limited | 280H | In Service | Rosthern |
639 | 519 | Distributel | 081E | In Service | Rosthern |
Numbers would be portable between all of these listed companies present in that rate centre (Rosthern).
But - in an even smaller community, for example Climax, SK ( 😂 ) :
NPA | CO Code (NXX) | Company | OCN | Status | Rate Centre |
306 | 293 | SaskTel | 8091 | In Service | Climax |
- SaskTel is literally the only carrier with a presence in that rate centre, so a 306-293 number would be impossible to port anywhere else... Similarly Christopher Lake only has a SaskTel presence, even though Rogers has a big cell tower there... (I guess its just cottage country, so it would mostly be people coming in with their Regina/Saskatoon/Prince Albert phones hehe)
You would be able to port a Bethune, SK number to Bell and some VoIP providers, but not Telus or Rogers:
NPA | CO Code (NXX) | Company | OCN | Status | Rate Centre |
306 | 638 | SaskTel | 8091 | In Service | Bethune |
639 | 203 | SaskTel Mobility | 9868 | In Service | Bethune |
639 | 615 | Distributel | 081E | In Service | Bethune |
639 | 715 | Distributel | 081E | In Service | Bethune |
639 | 765 | Bell Mobility | 6574 | In Service | Bethune |
You cannot port Wynyard, SK numbers to VoIP providers: (ie my voip.ms account says NO)
NPA | CO Code (NXX) | Company | OCN | Status | Rate Centre |
306 | 328 | SaskTel | 8091 | In Service | Wynyard |
306 | 404 | Rogers Communications Canada Inc. (Wireless) | 8821 | In Service | Wynyard |
306 | 554 | SaskTel | 8091 | In Service | Wynyard |
306 | 560 | SaskTel Mobility | 9868 | In Service | Wynyard |
306 | 576 | SaskTel | 8091 | In Service | Wynyard |
639 | 283 | Bell Mobility | 6574 | In Service | Wynyard |
639 | 345 | TELUS Mobility | 8303 | In Service | Wynyard |
639 | 654 | Access Communications Co-operative Limited | 280H | In Service | Wynyard |
Cheers! -N

Sorry, but if there are no Telus Mobility-assigned phone numbers in a particular city, a number from that same city cannot be ported to Public Mobile.
You could use some combination of call forwarding but you would end up having two different phone numbers at two different services.
