Porting a Sasktel number

Mach1
Great Neighbour / Super Voisin

It appears that if you have a Sasktel number in a community that has a Telus presence porting is no problem. (I played around porting numbers from several such communities) If your Sasktel number is from a community without the Telus presence as I am, on line porting does not work and the following message is displayed when checking the number on page two of the activation process:

We were unable to transfer the phone number you entered. Try one of the following options:
- Make sure you entered your number correctly.
- Select a new number.
- Contact the Public Mobile Community for further assistance.

I wish to continue using my present number. There has to be a way to make this work.

It's all based on which carriers are present in each city or "Rate Centre". If Telus isn't listed for a given rate centre where SaskTel is, then a port to Telus Mobility/Koodo/Public Mobile is not possible.

This site is the authority of which companies are present in each rate centre: http://cnac.ca/co_codes/co_code_status.htm

For example, look at Rosthern, SK:

NPACO Code (NXX)CompanyOCNStatusRate Centre
306212SaskTel Mobility9868In ServiceRosthern
306223SaskTel8091In ServiceRosthern
306232SaskTel8091In ServiceRosthern
306349TELUS Mobility8303In ServiceRosthern
306406Rogers Communications Canada Inc. (Wireless)8821In ServiceRosthern
639375Distributel 081E In Service Rosthern
639388Iristel Inc. 154E In Service Rosthern
639396Iristel Inc. 154E In Service Rosthern
639426Bell Mobility 6574In Service Rosthern
639439Access Communications Co-operative Limited 280H In Service Rosthern
639519Distributel 081E In Service Rosthern

Numbers would be portable between all of these listed companies present in that rate centre (Rosthern).

But - in an even smaller community, for example Climax, SK ( 😂 ) :

NPACO Code (NXX)CompanyOCNStatusRate Centre
306293SaskTel8091In ServiceClimax

- SaskTel is literally the only carrier with a presence in that rate centre, so a 306-293 number would be impossible to port anywhere else... Similarly Christopher Lake only has a SaskTel presence, even though Rogers has a big cell tower there... (I guess its just cottage country, so it would mostly be people coming in with their Regina/Saskatoon/Prince Albert phones hehe)

You would be able to port a Bethune, SK number to Bell and some VoIP providers, but not Telus or Rogers:

NPACO Code (NXX)CompanyOCNStatusRate Centre
306638SaskTel8091In ServiceBethune
639203SaskTel Mobility 9868In Service Bethune
639615Distributel 081E In Service Bethune
639715Distributel 081E In Service Bethune
639765Bell Mobility 6574In Service Bethune

You cannot port Wynyard, SK numbers to VoIP providers: (ie my voip.ms account says NO)

NPACO Code (NXX)CompanyOCNStatusRate Centre
306328SaskTel8091In ServiceWynyard
306404Rogers Communications Canada Inc. (Wireless)8821In ServiceWynyard
306554SaskTel8091In ServiceWynyard
306560SaskTel Mobility9868In ServiceWynyard
306576SaskTel8091In ServiceWynyard
639283Bell Mobility 6574In Service Wynyard
639345TELUS Mobility 8303In Service Wynyard
639654Access Communications Co-operative Limited 280H In Service Wynyard

Cheers! -N

Sorry, but if there are no Telus Mobility-assigned phone numbers in a particular city, a number from that same city cannot be ported to Public Mobile.

You could use some combination of call forwarding but you would end up having two different phone numbers at two different services.
