Ported Landline/VoIP from Rogers, incoming calls go straight to voicemail

Hello,

I ported a Rogers Home Phone (landline/VoIP) number to my PM number. Within about 20 minutes, I was able to send texts, receive texts, and make outgoing calls with the Rogers number; however, 14 hours has passed since the port was requested and incoming calls go straight to voicemail. Is this a sign of a stuck port that needs the assistance of a moderator?

Thanks for reading.

@dust2dust , no apology required. I understand that your reply was general in nature. What you mentioned is relevant in this age of identity theft and is a good reminder to myself and others to be proactive in protecting this sensitive information at all times.

Sorry. I wasn't meaning you in particular. I was meaning Rogers in general. The information you provide can be taken from a bill. There then should be some form of confirmation. Which is the process from cell to cell. But landlines don't generally take texts. So there should be some form of confirmation.

HI @audit131

e-invoice from PM? you should be able to download the invoice back.  Login to My Account, Payment history and there should be a download invoice link

if you cannot find, best to submit a ticket with CS agent:

In order to request the port, I had to enter relevant information from my Rogers account before I could complete the port request.

I receive e-invoices and never print them out.

Well I guess if anyone has a Rogers landline account number that they scrounged out of a garbage can out front then they could take the number. There really should be a confirmation of some sort. Identifying you with information not on any bill. Of course they notice the port request and then go on to say that about what will happen. But ... no confirmation from a customer?

@dust2dust , the Rogers rep said the port is in process and may take a few days to complete and home phone account will be closed when port is done.

Hi @dust2dust , just spoke with Rogers and they confirmed that the port is in process and will take some time to complete.

HI @audit131

good, this is expected.  3 to 7 days, and likely closer to 3.  Remember to reboot your phone with PM sim card daily and try calling yourself to test

So you said to proceed with the port request? Otherwise anybody can just port out numbers willy nilly without authorization.

Hi @dust2dust , thank you for the reply. I will call Rogers now.

HI @audit131

yes, not hurt to give a verbal approval.  But again, do not instruct them to close the account.  Account will be closed at the end of the porting process

As mentioned, don't cancel. You're just informing them. They'll deal with the account after.

Hi @dust2dust , thank you for the reply. I will call Rogers now.

Yes you do need to inform Rogers that you permit the port out. Because there's no texting with a landline you can't permit it that way as you would with a cellphone.

hi @audit131

yes, porting from mobile is quick, but from landline or home phone (VoIP) takes longer

you can try to call Rogers and give them the go ahead, but still will be 3 to 7 days.  But make sure you do not close the account.  Let the porting process to close the account at the end.

Hi @audit131

If calls are going straight to VM, please check your call blocking features on your phone. I was having that issue myself recently with my iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone XR. I had "block unknown callers" checked off. After the previous Apple update, it started blocking more and more calls I wanted. So I unchecked it, rebooted and everything went back to normal.

Hi @hTideGnow , and thank you for this information.

I did not realize it took that long. I've ported lines in for other people and it was completed with an hour but that could have been because the port was from another cell provider.

I wonder if Rogers needs me to call them to authorize the port even though I can send and receive texts and make outgoing calls.

Cheers!

HI @audit131

in case you are worry, I will send you PM porting support team.  They can provide you update but call them no earlier than Friday.   Check the community inbox for the number

HI @audit131

sending text and make calls ALWAYS work immediately

but porting from landline take 3 to 7 days., and it affects inbound calls

until port is completed, 3 to 7 days, your Rogers home will still be able to make and receive calls. Your PM will be able to make calls and text only.  Check everyday, reboot phone and call yourself from another phone, the day you find out PM receives calls, porting is done and your Rogers home phone  account will be closed as well
