Plan Change Question

kav2001c

Just curious on what will happen in this scenario. Any advice or should I contact customer service etc? In the Rewards section for Referrals they give an example of rewards not being retroactive (in other words, if on an older plan and change to a new plan, any previous refer bonus will be lost) My issue is I am on a newer reward eligible plan that no longer suits my needs. I want to change to a different reward eligible plan. If I do a plan change I would keep my existing rewards right? (just wording is vague on this) Or of rewards became ineligible I could get them reapplied by customer service?

Is it safe to assume that going the other way (90 day plan to 30 day plan) also allows you to continue to accrue loyalty credits and keep any auto-pay/referral rewards? I'd like to take advantage of the current $40/30-day 4.5GB 3G offer that's on right now!

You posted in a really old thread.  This question was discussed more recently.  It looks like what happens when switching from a 90 day plan to a 30 day plan, only 30 days worth of rewards are issued upon renewal even though 90 days of time was spent accruing rewards since the last payment.  My opinion is the rewards accumulated since the last payment should be made available.  The system works differently.  In any event, reward levels are not lost.  Just duration for purpose of calculating total rewards is reduced.

Hi @saukalra,

I'm glad that you received a loyalty reward, but it was a system error in your favour.

If you read the rules involving loyalty rewards as well as other rewards, you will see that only eligible plans are entitled to rewards. Grandfathered plans are not considered "eligible plans".

Further, several months ago, I asked my PM contact about retroactive rewards if I were to switch to a new plan. I was informed that there would be none as retroactivity does not exist regarding grandfathered/legacy/pioneer plans.

FYI.

@Martin

When I switched from a grandfathered plan to a new rewards plan, I actually received a loyalty reward for the time I had spent on the grandfathered plan. So I guess the year(s) spent on a grandfathered plan do count towards a loyalty reward if you switch to a new plan.

@kav2001c I believe the previous responders were correct, that you will retain any rewards you have already collected, and will continue to receive any rewards for which you are entitled with your new 90-day plan.

I don't know what rewards you have been getting so far, but for example, if you have been getting $1/30 days for referring someone, and $2/30 days for auto-pay, you will continue to get those same rewards when you switch to a 90-day rewards-eligible plan.  90 days after you change plans will be your next renewal, and you should have 3 x $1 = $3 for the referral (assuming that person stays an active customer), and 3 x $2 = $6 for auto-pay (assuming you leave it enabled). Hopefully that makes sense and helps.

Hi @kav2001c,

In your 10:19 pm EDT post, you mentioned rewards not being retroactive. Retroactivity does not occur when switching from a grandfathered plan to one of the new plans. For instance, I'm on a grandfathered plan. If I were to leave it for a new plan, my years on the grandfathered one would not count as far as calculating rewards, etc. that I would have earned had I not been grandfathered.

I hope that this reply adds to the above clarifications.

Cheers.

Any rewards you were receiving for your plan won't be lost when you switch to a new one. I believe the rewards are linked to your account not the individual plan. So you'll still keep any referral, autopay, loyalty, and community rewards! 😀

Yeah. You definitely won't have any problem on it since you are changing to rewards eligible plan which is the 90 day plan. Only the 30 days and 90 days are eligible while the 10 day isn't.

But, yeah, we can wait for some more people to verify it if you are still hesitant.

Just to be clear though; my old plan is a 30 day reward plan. New plan is 90 day reward plan. So I am a bit nervous to make change... has anyone else tried before?

If my understanding is correct, as long as you are on the eligible plans (30 day/90 day plans) and account on good standing then you won't lose any of these discounts. If you do lose it, however, you can give the customer service an email or give one of the moderators a message if the customer service didn't give you any help from your problem.
