The other thing I want to throw out there to our community is the fact Pixel phones are not meant for people like us

Even Google has said so

The Pixel phones are being positioned to the typical Apple person who has no idea how a phone works and does not care

The fact we are on a fringe carrier like Public and ask questions like what is APN settings or what band LTE does phone have shows we are nowhere near the target audiance

@srlawren in US they are Verizon exclusive. So they ship locked.

Tons of complaints online at mod community having fits with new bootloader

To the best of my knowledge, Pixel phones bought directly from Google, or basically anywhere other than from Verizon (ugh), are NOT locked

Add to this the fact they ship LOCKED (first Google device ever) and lacking many high end phone features one must wonder what were they thinking...

I love the idea of a pure Android phone from Google, which is why I own a Nexus 5, but the price on these new Pixel phones is a bit too high for me. I get it, the build is better and all, but I just can't justify dropping a thousand bucks on a phone, especially considering the competition out there in the < $400 range.

I'm in the same boat, it's just too expensive...

The Pixel series really is the antithesis of the Nexus series. I am not at all excited about this business decision.

The other scary thing is the HTC involvement. HTC in recent years has lost more than Blackberry, Nokia, and Motorola combined. Most business analysts are unable to give any valid reason why Samsung has destroyed them so.

Only thing going for Pixel is the Google name. I am skeptical it will be enough.

@srlawren software optimization is obviously a huge plus when it comes to battery life and is why most reviews show such a wide gap in favour of Pixel. The fact Google is abandoning Nexus brand means 6P will never receive such love from them.

@Griff but 6P also used alot less power remember (and it was only passable, I still would prefer more juice)

@kav2001c why do you say the 6P used less power?  It had an older less efficient Snapdragon 810 vs. the 14nm 821 in the Pixels, plus the 6P has a slightly larger screen which likely uses slightly more juice (both are QHD AMOLED so probably not a big difference mind you).  I'm thinking the XL is going to do quite well for battery.  I'd be more concerned about the regular Pixel, since the only diff other than smaller battery is a slightly smaller screen--I'm not sure it's enough to offset the reduced capacity.

That said, software optimization is really key.  There's a on of newer 5.5" devices out there with only 3000mAh that can make it through most of all of the day (depending on your usage).

All THAT said, the pricing on these Pixels is nuts.  I'll stick with my OnePlus 3!

@stonechucker . If you look at the phone & hardware forum. You will fins my previous thread " phones which work on PM" all the budget phone.
Hopefully you won't sell a kidney to buy the phone xD

I'm going to have to sell my car if I want any of these flagship phones.  Too expensive!

Isn't Google selling these from the play store unlocked?  I know the price will be the same, but the US to CDN conversion isn't equal... we're paying about $40 US more.

I agree with you guys. Now they are very expensive. All the flagship are overpriced cuz they do know that they are a lot of people who will buy it , or maybe they have a good deal on the Carrie provider.

Way too expensive.... with apple pricing.  Maybe pick it up in a year when they go on sale.

I will probably wait until Mar/april when samsung releases their new phone and buy the S7 series ... it will be much lower by then ... if not oh well my nexus 5 is solid still...

Google turned into apple, profiteering bastards. Very sad at that announcement on Tuesday with the same prices ... lame.

IF I want a great camera, you know what I will use my dSLR ... WAY better than any camera phone!

@kav2001c Battery seems alright considering you get 7 hrs of charging in just 15 mins Smiley Surprised

I miss the days of reasonably priced Google phones. Days of the Nexus 4/5 are gone 😕

@kav2001c

Too early to judge for me, there are talks of Nougat having better battery optimization with features like "doze" hopefully that's all true. The new moto flagship, Moto Z came out the other day and only has a 2600 mAh battery and apparently holds out pretty well and that phone has the same sized display as the XL.

@Griff but 6P also used alot less power remember (and it was only passable, I still would prefer more juice)

What's wrong with the battery? 3450mAh is the same size as what was in the Nexus 6P

I am really surprised at the crap battery

Considering where this device is being positioned it will make the iPhone look long lasting
