Can one chose their own phone number when getting a SIM card and plan from Public Mobile?

Yes, you have the option to get a phone number, you just pick the exchange you want to be in or have the option of porting a number. I am in the camp of getting a temporary number and porting later. Just to make sure it all works good and your happy with PM, then port later.

You pick your number during sim activation.
If you plan to activate in the store is best to come right when they open up and during the week when it's not too busy as clerk will be helping you and when it's busy they get annoyed easily. Good news is that you can pick last 4 digits of available.
If you do it yourself online you have much more time and less pressure.

@Lyndsey you can transfer your number from your previous provider. You also can select a phone # from a given list when you change it via self-service account. If you get a sim and select a plan with a help of a store seller, phone number is randomly assigned.
