Hi, I am considering switching to Public, but I am not sure if my phone is compatible. I have an LG V60 ThinQ, specifically the LM-V600VM. I am currently with Fido and I guess something isn't jiving well with their new system after they decided to shut down 3G. I've already checked the bands, but as I also took that step with Fido and it's still a problem I wanted to check here as well. Does anyone else have this phone, or does someone have some more expertise in this area? I got confirmation from Telus that my phone should work on their network, but I get the feeling they just googled the phone, saw 4G and 5G and said it was good to go...

@waytay what phone do you have?
If you have a friend using PM, test his sim card with your phone

I gave my wife my awesome VoLTE 4G S10 that is white-listed with and works perfectly well on Telus. However, PM will no longer fully accept it -- they want her to buy a new phone instead. Or maybe they want her to move back to full-meal-deal Telus.
But it is white-listed at FIZZ...so...

..so how does that work without first being assigned another phone number?

Unfortunately, you can’t pick yourself as a solved solution.

Your phone has VoLTE but it is not on PM VoLTE whitelist, so you need to callback to 3G for voice

As a final update, I have the SIM, I can text and access data, but calls try to go through but it never makes a connection. I tried with Shizuku to forcefully enable VoLTE, but no luck, the IMS is unregistered... Guess I'm getting a new phone...
Thanks everyone for all your help, I guess one small upside to all this is that I discovered public mobile.

While you're shopping, get a line on a new cellphone...I think you're gonna need one. The list of cells that have VoLTE support from PM is very limited.

My phone doesnt need 3g, it supports VoLTE, just needs a network that supports it...

To get a new SIM card the fastest routes are these.
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/pick-up-SIM - Find a local store in your area.
Amazon - Here you can get it cheaper and maybe a few days wait $4.99

All carriers in Canada are slowly decommissioning 3G in Canada. Also the LG servers will stop in Canada end of June so you will need a new phone.

I would suggest you get your new phone and SIM first before porting over to PM.

To confirm if your phone will work with Public Mobile, please see this link. These are currently and mildly out of date lists of what can work.

Honestly, it's a hit and miss these days. So many phones that work on Public Mobile that are NOT on the list. Telus and Public Mobile have different lists. My only suggestion is to try the cheapest service there is with Public Mobile and make sure everything works from calling, texting and data. As long as all 3 work, then you can port over your number. But make sure it all works first before attempting to port over.
