PM SIM card successfully activated with old phone number ported over, now phone shows old SIM card

Android phone is now with new PM SIM, old phone number. Under Settings-About Phone, it shows PM provider, however the SIM card number is the older one.

Phone can send and receive text msg fine, same for calling and receiving call.

Does it mean the new PM SIM card now has old phone number overwritten, thus the phone show OLD SIM card #?

Just asking, thanks!

For my older android phone, this works:

android:

Find and tap Settings > Backup & reset > Network settings reset

As a result, the Cellular Network State now shows Connected (within Settings>About phone>Status>SIM status>Cellular Network State)

Just to report my findings 🙂

(as for your question in another post, my phone has only one slot for SIM card, now has PM SIM card inserted, just for completeness)

@Lbv710  - I will also suggest to perform a reset of your device's network settings with the public mobile sim card in the device. Not sure I fully understand the issue you are seeing with the sim card number..but this may reset things up and align them with public mobile.

Perform a Reset of your device's Network Settings.

This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Iphone:

To Reset Network Settings, begin by opening the Settings app. Next, tap General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. and enter your passcode.

Your iPhone will reset network settings and restart itself.

android:

Find and tap Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Reset network settings.

@Lbv710 - so you responded to the Rogers SMS text to approve the port over to Public Mobile - that's great, and an important step to do.

And, texting and calling services work, great. If that is the case, I don't think you will need CSA's assistance.

Where exactly are you seeing the old sim card number?

Do you have a dual sim slot in your phone device?

edit to striked out below, you said 'Android user' in your post.

Are you an iphone user?  If so, deregister the number on the iphone: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/

Set up your phone number On your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages and make sure that iMessage is on. You might need to wait a moment for it to activate.
  2. Tap Send & Receive. If you see “Use your Apple ID for iMessage,” tap it and sign in with the same Apple ID that you use on your Mac, iPad, and iPod touch.
  3. In the "You can receive iMessages" section, make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected.
  4. Go to Settings > FaceTime and make sure that your phone number and Apple ID are selected in the "You can be reached by FaceTime at" section.

"The IMEI number is for your phone and not for the SIM so it should remain the same no matter what SIM you put in it." So, it is correct/normal to have the new PM SIM card currently in my phone as I can use new PM Plan/Service now, and the IMEI number is the old SIM with the phone number ported over?

I don't think the phone number is locked by Rogers, if it were, this Rogers pre-paid account expires yesterday, it would have prevented me from using it in PM plan (and I did the transfer yesterday, when it was still active).

As for the porting over process, I can confirm that after I missed the first 90 min window, when I had the PM SIM in the phone during Activation and Requesting phone number porting over, I re-initiate the process by responding 1 to PM msg. Then, I received Rogers svc message asking if I wanted to transfer, I then responded Yes.

Do you think I still should ask a CS_Agent to verify if the porting is complete, even you confirmed that the IMEI number reflects the old phone number being ported over, regardless of the SIM card being used?

@Lbv710

The IMEI number is for your phone and not for the SIM so it should remain the same no matter what SIM you put in it.

It sounds like you missed the 1.5 hour window so you will need the help of a CS _Agent to complete the porting for you.

Do you know if your phone is locked by Rogers?

I did reboot the phone a couple times, no change.

I first missed the msg from PM to confirm the porting over request, as I inserted the new PM SIM to the phone, thus missed the 2 hr window. Then, as I learned from PM Chatbot, I removed the PM SIM, replaced with old Rogers SIM, then I saw the PM msg. I then re-request the transfer. Then I received a Rogers msg asking me to confirm, which I said Yes. Then, after a while, I re-insert the PM SIM. I could call and receive phone calls, and text msgs, no problem.

I am just wondering if the new PM SIM now is overwritten with the old phone ported over (My Account shows the old phone #), in addition, the old SIM IMEI now replaces the original PM IMEI, or not?

One more question, which may be related to the same issue (?), the Cellular Network State shows Disconnected? What does it mean? Mine is an old Google Nexus phone.

Thx

@Lbv710

Did you try rebooting your phone by powering it off then back on?

This should refresh the phone.

Also, did you reply to the text with the old carrier SIM confirming you are porting over to PM? There is a 90 minute window for you to reply. If you missed this window, you will need to contact a CS_Agent to restart the porting process.
