i subscribed this afternoon. My phone number appears to be working for incoming and outgoing calls but I can’t send or receive messages.

What type of phone do you have?
Have you tried restarting your phone? You could also turn on and off airplane mode.
Resetting networks settings is also an option.
If using Google Messages, you could uninstall reatart your phone and install again.
If still not working use the chatbotbto create a ticket for agents to do a system refresh.
