I have been with public mobile for 4 days now and previously was receiving sms verification codes with various apps. Now however when I try to login into uber the code is not being sent to my phone.

you ported you number over from another provider?
Some system generated text might take couple days to learn that you changed provider, something to do with network routing. Usually it can resolve the new route within 3 or 4 days. Maybe wait till a full 7 days and see how it goes
Or, can you turn off 2FA for Uber for a day or two before turning it back on?
