Hey,
Followed a guide to change my S20 5G G981W firmware to G981U1 to get the 5G option to show.
It now shows, but I am still only getting LTE in a 5G region.
The SIM card status says LTE.
Do I need to do something else to gain access to it?

Tried that guide and it didn't work.
Looks like having XAA as your CSC code in the Canada doesn't allow you to receive text messages and calls. And plus the 5G was still not appearing.
I flashed back the G981W firmware with PMB CSC and got back to how it was originally.
Even though it says LTE, I should be getting good speeds.

It is a know issue that Samsung s20 does not have the 5G capabilities with Public Mobile. This is a Samsung issue that will not be upgraded with Public Mobile. See this news below.
If you are on a 5G plan, even you are connected to 4G network, you will have a speed higher than the capped speed of 100Mbps on a 4G speed plan.

LTE is very similar to 5G on Public Mobile, with speeds always getting up to that 250mbps speed. On my iPhone, it shows LTE as the deployment type and 5G NSA to display it.
Try this actually! https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/Samsung-s20-5G/m-p/1046009#M730500
Click on the 'Solution' button on the top and it'll bring you up to who got the solution. He got 5G and eSIM working on Public Mobile using the steps.
Anyways, here is the photo of LTE as the deployment type:
