I recently tried to switch my iphone 6 to a 7.

Everytime I put in the SIM card I used for the 6, its giving me an error message that says I need a new SIM card and it needs to be activated.

"The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server.  Thhis is not a hardware issue wiht the iphone.  Pleaes insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iphone be unlocked by your carrier.

Can anyone help???

The phone might be "carrier locked" I've used an online service for 2.95 , you enter your phone's "imei" number by dialing *#06# then following the unlocking service's directions.

Alternatively you could call Telus or whoever the carrier is possibly by dialing *611 and explain to the customer service agent you'd like the phone unlocked. They might do it for free

Sounds like it locked to a previous cell network. You'll have to contact them to get a free unlock code. Let us know if that works.

There's no such thing a network unlock code for any iPhone device. But yes, the previous carrier can get the phoen unlocked.

@jsuprun  I guess the first question would be, where did you get the iphone 7?  If you bought it second hand then yes as mentioned, it may be locked to another network and you will need to get it unlocked before the PM sim will work.
