Hi All
I have setup a new ASUS phone and everything works fine with the exception that I can not receive texts. On occasion from certain people a text will come through but most never arrive
APN is set for Public Mobile but my understanding is that only affects MMS not SMS messages.
Any help is appreciated.

@Bigshpank if you haven't already, I'd highly recommend you reach out to the moderator team to check your account. It's possible there are SMS provisioning issues on your account.

You could also try restarting your device, if you haven't already. Not strictly necessary on newer devices ... but it still sometimes corrects mysterious device-side glitches.

•Go to Settings
•Then go to Mobile networks and select a network other than Public Mobile, Telus, or Koodo
•When you exit the menu the phone should lose the network.
•Repeat the process and select Public Mobile as your mobile network.
This procedure will force the update of the message centre number. You can verify it in your message settings.
On android, there is no need to do this toggle. If you search for networks and select auto, it is as good as a toggle. I am surprised that a simple reboot doesn't have the same effect. I would be inclined go clearing the cache on the sms app, force closing it and then restarting.

Yes, that's right - APN settings have no effect on your ability to to send or receive text messages.
As for the messege centre number (SMSC), to my knowledge, an incorrect setting would not prevent you from receiving a text message. I beleive that an incorrect setting would only prevent you from sending them.
I would say that since you are receiving some text messages, I really don't believe this to be a phone issue. There are things could possibly prevent you from receiving some text messages (a contact being in your blocked list, notficiations being turned off, a software bug, etc.), but generally, there isn't anything that most could mess up in the settings that would prevent the receipt of messages.
I would check to see if it a specific carrier that you are have trouble receiving text messages from. Some of the the time, intercarrier messsages can be problematic.
