Options to get more data:
1. If your current data limit does not meet your 30 days' need, you may change a plan with more data. You can do the plan from self-serve. You get your data back immediately with plan change.
2. If you want to renew the same plan early, you need to create a moderator support ticket using this link https://publicmobile.ca.ada.support/chat/. Moderator wait time is couple hours to 2 days. If your next renewal date is up to 2 days away, you may just on data diet for a few days until after renewal.
3. You can buy data add-ons $15 1GB data or $5 200MB data. Expensive option

Just a suggestion, deepening how far you are from the renewal you may want to consider renewing early. To do that you would have to put 20 more and contact moderators. Your renewal date would change to today (next one 30 days from now)
If he's gonna eat through those 2 gigs add-on may be too expensive. If you think he could buckle down and ration data usage then add-on is a great option as it doesn't expire ever until you use it

@Penfold Adding money to the account does not get data working. There are no pay per use charges. You need to purchase a data add-on

@Penfold Here's how to add them.

@Penfold do you still see the money in your available funds?
Purchasing add-ons is a 2 step process.
If the money has been added, you can go ahead to purchase the add-on that your want.
See how-to guide here https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Plans-Add-Ons/HOWTO-Purchasing-Add-ons/m-p/198974
You can make the purchase via self serve account or by calling 611 on your phone.

@Penfold You would have to purchase one of the data add-ons through his Self serve account before it would start.

Are you trying to buy an add-on?
It's $15 for 1 gig. Add-on is a two step process.
1- add money to your account
2- buy the add-on
Sounds like you did step one. Now go complete step two by buying the add-on.
Stay safe!
