I have a friend who lives in the US. She would like to chat through the Messenger App (Not Facebook) I don't want to be charged for texting to the US. Would there be extra charges?

Hi @CherylKirby As @Anonymous said, this is a prepaid service so there cannot be any bill charges after you have done something. Telus were able to bill you because that was a post paid service. Also, if you download and use the messaging app on wifi, there are no associated charges anyway.

Yes.
If you download and instal Messenger App on your phone, you can text thru the app while connected to the wifi without extra charge.

I am really not too tech savvy so to clarify, if I download it to my phone I can use it through wifi and it should work with no US charges? On Telus I once texted my cousin who was visiting from China and we assumed since we could talk locally texting would be the same.1 text cost me $6! Of course I got a bill after not before!

You will not be charged for texting to US through the Messenger App if you have Data included in your plan.

@CherylKirby, With Public Mobile, everything is pre-paid. You are never charged extra for anything. In the case of the Messenger app, you need to have a data plan, or be connected to Wi-Fi.
Hope that answers your question. If not, just ask again!
