International device and network

Hello,

I am using an international flagship phone (Honor Magic 6 Pro) and I have two questions about your network:

Does your network allow full 5G access for phones that were not purchased from an official store or retailer in Canada?

Do you limit data speeds or network features for "non-certified" international devices?

I want to know if I can get the full speed of my plan with this device.

Thank you.

On my Honor Magic 6 Pro, the speeds on both 4G and 5G are almost identical, ranging from 100 to 140 Mbps. I borrowed a friend's Galaxy S24 FE, and it reached 250 Mbps, which is the maximum speed allowed by my plan(40 cad - 75 gb -speed 250). I assume my phone struggles with carrier aggregation on Canadian networks and can't properly combine frequencies for faster downloads

@Walt909

what plan do you have? if you have a 5G plan, you will get 250M top speed even you are using the 4G or LTE network.  You don't need to be on the 5G network to get the top speed

and you can check if your phone can use VoLTE  on PM here:

Thank you for answers guys, 🙂 I just checked, and when I make a call, my phone stays on 4G instead of switching to 3G. The phone is only a year old and I brought it from Europe, so l'd really prefer not to upgrade yet. l'm asking because when | tried my SIM card in a friend's phone, I got speeds of 250 Mbps, whereas on my device, I'm only getting around 100-140 Mbps. As long as calls keep working, I will live with the lower data speeds. 🙃

Data usage should be fine with your phone.  It is the VoLTE compatibility of your phone.  It is unlikely to be VoLTE compatible with Public mobile network, so you will likely have voice calling issues with this phone.

Here is some more information:

Check the IME checker for your phone.  Note: the IME checker has been wrong in the past.

You probably can use 5g with your phone but it depends on the 4G anchor band

However, the main issue is more tej Voice.  Your phone's VoLTE is not compatible with Public Mobile's.   You will have to use 3G for voices call (but data can still use 4G and possibly 5G).  However, you might see worse voice service as 3G will be going away slowly from now, we likely see 3G decommission within 2 years

Public Mobile doesn't support phones that are not designed for the North American market.

I wouldnt suggest buying it if you didn't yet. You will have little to no calls due to 3G needed for voice services and data issues. Might not connect period.
