@srlawren, oops... vision issue again!
Yes, international is different. I love PM for this, as there are no worries whether roaming is on off, I just won't add the roaming for the US as I won't use it, nor need it for that matter unless I purchase it.

Let's be honest, international roaming is expensive. It's prolly cheaper when you go somewhere international, that you pick up a cheap plan over there versus paying for roaming fees.

@stonechucker I know the title says "internal" roaming, but if you look at the single-line body of the OP, they are asking about "international" roaming.
@thantin to answer your quesiton about near term: PM keeps their cards close to their chest and don't usually mention new things before they are "ready" and announced; that said, there is nothing that suggests you should expect this any time soon.
The general rule of thumb with PM is: take the offerings for what they are today rather than what you hope/think they might be down the road.
TL;DR: don't bet on having access to international roaming through PM any time soon. Make other plans.

With Telus and Bell sharing the largest network in Canada and reaching nearly all the population and routes connecting them better than Rogers, and Freedom is only available in Major markets, there really isn't a need for a national roaming plan.
Ice Wireless (all the territories?) has an agreement to use Rogers' network, but I'm sure it's identified as Ice on the device when they're roaming. I think this is set up with the many regional carriers (Eastlink, MTS, SaskTel, etc) so if you're already on Telus or Bell networks, you're getting much greater service than the others.

Will this be in PM near future?

No. PM offers only US roaming add-on.
It may be cheaper to get a local SIM card when you arrive at your destination.
Use WhatsApp to send messages home over wifi and give you some time to get a local SIM card.
