I did my two factor authentication and I received a message from public mobile saying that I placed the incorrect ESN/MEID and that they would contact me. I have yet to receive anything.

It isn't always better to use the old carrier's account number. In some cases, the account number cant' be used such as customer coming from Speakout.

@ConnorDo Sounds like the port didn’t complete I will private message you the porting team number , they can re trigger the port request if needed. And just give them old providers account number . Ignore the IMEI . Leaving old providers sim in the phone to reply YES to the confirmation Text to port
