IMEI numbers 1 and 2

I’m trying to port my number from Speakout to Public Mobile   When I have Public mobile my EMEI number I gave them my IMEI1 number but when I contacted Speskout they were using my IMEI2 number. I’m not sure how I was supposed to know that. Luckily Speakout have real agents that answer the phone.

Speakout didn’t give me the whole EMEI number but did give me the last 4 digits.  I still don’t know how a customer is supposed to know which EMEI  number to use. My wife’s used her EMEI number, I had to use my EMEI2 number.  Anyway it’s done but only after spending 6 hours Friday night and 4 hours Saturday morning.

@Rod49 for most portins,  it is always recommended to use account number instead of IMEI because of this confusion.  But Speakout does not have account numbers for its clients and hence it is more troublesome

Problem solved but very confusing for us older people.  My wife and I both switched from Speakout to Public Mobile. I used my wife’s EMEI number to port hers so used the same for mine but when that didn’t work I had to use my EMEI2 number.  I found that out by calling Speakout and talking to an agent.  How I’m supposed to know which EMEI number to use. For people over 70 it would be very helpful to speak to an actual person and not just a machine or an agent through chat.

@Rod49

if you have not requested porting from 711 Speakout yet, you have to gather the correct information first

First, there is no account number with Speakout, so, porting have to be done via IMEI or PIN.  And remember, Speakout does not send SMS for port authorization and it might takes time

For IMEI,  Speakout uses the IMEI at time of activation or at some point in your account history, not the IMEI currently on the network.  This means that for older Speakout account that you have changed phone since you joined, you might need the IMEI from a phone several years ago.  So, what you provided might or might not work

You can call Speakout customer service and provide them the IMEI that you have to see if it matches what they have on the account.
If it does, then you can port with the IMEI only, instead of the PIN.  But If you no longer have access to that IMEI, Speakout Support will not disclose the IMEI to you, and you will have to provide Public Mobile with the PIN.
