This is a Shamsung thing to locked down their phones. I hate it when manufacturers butcher phone functionality for no good reason. If the hardware has all the bands, there should be no issue allowing all of them to function at all times. I just don't understand why people worship that company so much. Folks on this forum know where I stand with iPhones. I would gladly buy an iPhone over a galaxy device.

Restrictions are out by telecom companies on 5he phone firmware to disable unnecessary LTE bands not used. You that specific company and also to stop people from switching too. So all you had to do is just switch firmwares and install one of Telus/koodo firmwares that unlocks the bands.

@Nsk143 My first question is where did you get your S8 from? If you got it from Freedom Mobile, then the issue has to do with their bands, for some reason an unlocked S8 from FM can't use LTE elsewhere. I think you may need to root it or something, not sure but their is an Issue with Samsung Phones from FM when you unlock it and then use it somewhere else with LTE network. If you got it from anywhere else, then I can't really know the reason unless you bought the new Public Mobile plans which are only HSPA which is 3g. If your got the LTE plan then you may need to make sure your phone is rooted correctly, phone cellular network setup correctly (APN setup) or private message one of the MODS and leave them your phone number, sim number, & email address.
Check this out:
Good Luck! I hope everything works out for you as soon as possible.
