@Natalie28 - in order to activate with Public Mobile (with a new number or transfer a number over from another provider) you need to obtain an unused Public Mobile SIM card and activate it instore or online.
Online activation found here: https://publicmobile.ca/en/ns/portal/activation
To obtain a SM card, quickest way is to pick one up at a retail location near you:
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/ns/store-locator
or,
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/ns/get-help/articles/get-a-sim-card
Remember to activate using a referral code to receive $10 off.
And, if you are looking for a plan of $35 or more you can get bonus data for 6 months.
See the announcement thread: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Announcements/Feb-28-Flash-Sale-2GB-for-6-months-35/t...

@Natalie28 Welcome to PM 🙂
For porting, you might want to first check if your phone number is eligible to be ported into PM. You can check it here:
https://secure.koodomobile.com/checktransfereligibilityparrot/default.do?lang=en&appname=otherportal
(it is a Koodo site but both Koodo and PM are owned by Telus)
If it is confirmed possible to port, you can request porting during activation, Step 2 of Activation , pick I want to bring my existing phone number with me
Or if you have an existing service with PM already, you can login to My Account and request Change Number and select "Transfer a wireless and wireline number from another provider" from the choice there
