More information about this can be found here, effects of blue light on Melatonin proteins are described under "Regulation". The source of the blue light is irrelevant, it doesn't have to be a smartphone.

The smartphones et al have solutions. It is the household/office LED florescent-tube format "bulbs" as well as outdoor and street lamp LED replacements that concern me more. Here in Toronto, the Council has called for a Medical Health Officer review and report. May make for some interesting reading.

Thanks @s2scotty! Fortunately, most newer devices (phones anyway) have a "night mode" to filter out blue light at night. I know I use mine regularly! 🙂

Excellent share, @s2scotty
I use f.lux to counter some of the harmful effects.. especially on the computer. It takes some getting used to, but I have noticed significant difference.
