@J3np46 To add a bit more:

- Most current or recent phones have full eSIM support.  For example, current iPhones can hold up to 8 eSIMs and can have two active at a time.  This is great for people who travel a lot and don't want to be swapping tiny SIM cards in and out of their phone, or for people who for example need to have both a work and personal number available at the same time.  It's also great for travelling since you can add a local eSIM for data at a lower cost - or if you are using an eSIM for PM, you can use a physical local SIM for travelling without running the risk of losing your PM SIM somewhere.  There's lots of flexibility.

- eSIMs are also more secure since they cannot be removed from a phone if it's stolen. Yes, you can get similar protection with a convention SIM card by setting a PIN, but that runs the risk of you forgetting the SIM PIN - with eSIM, there is no need to use a PIN and therefore no risk of forgetting.  While you do need to get new eSIMs when you get a new phone, it's free and quick in the PM app - not really a significant issue.

- eSIMS can be obtained online with having to go to a store or wait for one to be shipped. It's almost instant.

- eSIMS are the future, like it or not.  Already, the last two years worth of iPhones in the US do not have SIM trays. While Apple hasn't extended that to the rest of the world yet, it's likely to happen at some point.

@softech that's good to know thank you.

 @TheSterlinger  and @HALIMACS

PM has changed policy, the esim cost is now a one time $5 cost (or completely free with activation).   Subsequent purchases on the same account will be free 🙂

when subscribers need to "re-buy" new esim for the new phone, it will show $5 initially, but system will give a $5 credit to make it $0 when the purchase is finalized

Existing eSIM users at Public Mobile who need a replacement can do so at no extra cost. When you request a new eSIM through the usual process, we automatically identify you as an existing eSIM user and waive the replacement fee.

Esim is device specific.  Cannot be transferred from phone to phone.

Cost $5.00 each time.

Might be quick and easy but can be costly in the long run if you change phones often.

Not all devices are compatible.

Never used one myself.

It is downloaded through the PM app and scanned onto an e-SIM enabled device using a QR code supplied at the time of activation.

Many have found out that the biggest disadvantage is that when one needs to move devices, they need to repurchase another e-SIM, vs physically move the physical SIM card from one device to another.

 EDIT : thanks to @softech information, this is now known to be changed. Thank you, @softech !!
