@steve321 you said you "have a pixel phone with SIM card", so, a physical sim card?
Changing from hard sim card to eSIM is NOT free. Only those who are currently using a PM eSIM will get replacement eSIM for free. And the free replacement also have conditions, main condition is one free replacement every 15 days

Yes you will be charged for $5 if you are switching from SIM to eSIM. It is free if you are switching from eSIM from old phone to eSIM on new phone.

@steve321 , you should not be charged to purchase an e-SIM if you are already using an e-SIM. Simply go through the process of purchasing a new e-SIM and if you are charged, you can contact support to have the charges reversed.
