Cannot send or receive SMS or iMessages

Hi, I switched to Public recently and since porting my phone number from previous provider, I have been unable to send or receive SMS or iMessages. Support has “reset my network settings” but nothing has changed. I have restarted the phone multiple times, reset all connections, etc.  Any suggestions?

I can enable MMS messages but it has no effect.  Turning on RCS messaging says “Waiting for activation...”

Going into the messages app I get the message “MMS requires your phone number - press settings to go to phone settings and enter your phone number.” I enter my phone number in “my number ”, but pressing save does nothing, the phone doesn’t register the save button being pressed and just stays on the same screen with no effect.

I can’t receive inbound calls either. Can make outgoing calls and use data only. Still no use of SMS or iMessage, inbound or outbound.

Going into messages I get the message “MMS requires your phone number - press settings to go to phone settings and enter your phone number.” I enter my phone number in “my number ”, but pressing save does nothing, the phone doesn’t register the save button being pressed and just stays on the same screen with no effect.

Trying to activate iMessage gives the error “Activation unsuccessful. Turn on iMessage to try again.”

@weissb

Check if MMS and SMS is enabled in the phone settings.

Go to Settings>Apps(on new phones)>Messages and enable MM Messaging and Send as Text Messages.

You can also enable RCS Messaging if your iPhone have this option.

Then reboot your iPhone by powering off then back on.

If it still doesn’t work then click on Chatbot and type in Submit a Ticket or Contact Agent for them to check the issue.

hi @weissb you receive inbound calls without problem?

make sure Carrier Profile is updated

then go to iMessage Settings, remove the phone number a d reboot.  After phone is up, go back to the iMessage settings and put the number back to re-register
