After activating, cannot make/receive calls

Hi,  I recently activated a new SIM but cannot make/receive any calls.

Text works fine, data works fine.

Just the calls cannot be made / received.

I also received a cancellation text from previous provider which I accepted.

Do I just have to wait a few hours?

Thanks. Everything worked after a while.  Just had to be patient. 😉

@rayc   Activating a sim card should provide you with some services pretty much immediately after restarting your phone with the public mobile sim card inside. Outgoing calls should be one of these services that should after activation.

Cell ports can take 2-3 hours. Use the previous provider's SIM card to receive the porting transfer text for approval to port over to Public Mobile and to receive calls from until port is complete.

Landline/voip ports can take 3+ days. Expect a mix of services on the landline and Public Mobile SIM card until port is complete.

Incoming calls are normally the last to port over. When the incoming calls stop on the previous provider’s SIM card and/or landline/voip account, that is a good indication the port is complete.

Perhaps also try a reset of the device's network settings, if the reboot didn't get your outgoing calls working. You could also try your sim into another phone to see if outgoing calls work.

If over the allotted time it normally takes to port, submit a ticket with Public Mobile representatives (CSA) for help; click this link for issues with transfer/porting of phone numbers over to Public Mobile.

Which phone do you have?  Does it have 3g 850 and 1900?  Public Mobile has no voice service without those but at yoru old carrier, voice might have been availiable on LTE.

Try to reboot your phone.  It happened to me - SOS only.

@rayc Did you reply to a text message to authorize the port out request while you had the old carrier sim card inserted? If yes, it might take an hour or so to fully complete the port in request.
