$40/15GB plan vs $39/20GB plan savings comparison

For those who are interested, I thought to share a breakdown of how much a person would save over 25 payments (about 2 years time) if they switched from the $40/15GB plan to the $39/20GB plan. I acknowledge you get more data monthly with the $39 plan, so this is for those of us who are good with how much data is included in the $40 plan but are considering changing over to the $39 plan but worrying whether it's permanent like the $40 plan apparently is (based on what I read on these forums and community threads).

So as you can see, over the span of 2 years, the savings are just under $30.  It was helpful for me in making my decision (as of right now, I am going to stick to the $40 plan) so hopefully by sharing it, it can also help someone else 🙂

I don't understand your question. I asked specifically if the new $39 promo plan included international SMS and they said yes, that all current plans do.

CS_Agent just got back to me to confirm:

"I can confirm at this moment that all the plans that we currently have include unlimited international text messages. I am aware of the fact that on the website this detail is not being specified. I do apologize for this situation, this is a cosmetic issue that will be solved soon. Let me know if you have any other inquiries."

From what I have seen Public sticks to the offers and this one unlike the previous plan does not state a credit or adjustment to the $45 20gb plan as did the previous offer.  New offer is plain 20GB @ $39.  I changed mine to $39 and nowhere does it state it is a short term offer....

PM does not tack on $2/plan /mo as they feel like it as have Fido Rogers etc when they want to make an extra few million over their subscriber base...

But there is inflation on fuel costs associated with cell towers...

I think I may need to explain. Per my understanding, it seemed no one was sure the $39 plan is long term or temporary. This is the only thread where members seem certain that this is a long term (will not change unless customer chooses to change plans) sort of thing... thus, what is the best price is dependent on that right? for example, if I only need 12GB and a year later, the $39 plan becomes $45 (for example), then I am better off staying with the current plan of $40/15GB, right? 

Also, for points, I mean your points is the same for each plan right? If you have $9 in points, that's $31 (40-9) or $30(39-9) so the difference remains the same month over month...

I guess for me, I am just worried that this $39 is not grandfathered in and that a year from now, it will become >$40. This has happened several times to me now with telecomm companies so thank you for the reassurance about Public Mobile 🙂

I am basing my mention of  20GB @ $39/mo as "potentially" short-term off the fact that in reaching out to PM reps, I have heard they will not confirm this is a long-term offer and there has consistently been statements along the lines of "the conditions of this offer may change at any time" (I am paraphrasing) so I took it to mean it may be a short term offer.

If you have such confirmation, that is great and if so, I may need to rethink not changing my plan. I simply listed what I know to be 100% true when I posted.

Previous offer ended 15th and was 20GB @ $45/mo - $6 for 24 months!

Current offered plan is straight up 20GB @ $39/mo ongoing

There is no mention of a short term or the offer changing after a certain time period

Obviously there are different approaches to these kinds of comparison. 

I can think of a couple of scenarios:

- what is the biggest amount of data I'm getting for $xx -> $39/20GB is better than $40/15GB.

- assuming that I actually need xxGB, what is the best price? My data plan (that I put in and out of suspension as needed, and I usually go and download/stream a movie if there's data left over a day or two before renewal ) is right now on the $45/20GB plan, it's a no brainer to schedule a change to $39/20GB for that one, $6 savings.

- still assuming that you are still using all the data (since you have it...): $40/15GB = $2.66/GB, S39/20GB = $1.95/GB

- if you are only using, say, 6GB, then your GB costs $6.66/GB on the $40 plan, $6.5/GB on the $39...

Historically Public Mobile has been quite good when it came to grandfathering plans, there are a only a few examples for increases (The pre-2015 legacy plans were increased twice, I think, during the process of convincing people to get off real life support and the outphasing of the later. They tried to increase cost of the 2016 fall promo but back tracked after the monster back lash The most recent was the $3 increase on the $10/50/50 plan, so while there are still some of us on that plan, it's not that good of a deal for absolute minimal use anymore...)

Generally speaking you keep a plan until YOU change it. You can't go back to a plan if it's not offered at the time you make or schedule the change. I.e. someone still on the 2016 ($120/12GB/90days*) fall promo can not go back to it once a plan change to an in market (that $39/20GB plan? 5 times more data for roughly the same price) has gone through.

* All numbers don't take into consideration rewards!

@WindyOrbits I think all current plans do not cover Premium text and international special text as they are

• international shortcode, 2FA, like those from overseas banks
• as well as those that you text with a cost, like those text a number to donate

Thanks for the response! But it seems there is also the question of what this thread is talking about. Do you know if the international messaging conditions have changed between the $40 plan and the $39 plan?

@WindyOrbits the $39 plan is not a plan with price locked down for only so many months.  It is a "permanent" price plan like all other plans, which PM has right to increase the price with 30 days notice.    It is temporary in terms of being offered temporarily and can be removed any time

@WindyOrbits I have changed plans a few times, chasing lower price with more data and have never been surprised by the price changing. Unless it specifically says it is a time limited promotion valid only for a specified time and states what it will cost after that time or what the data will be after that time, it is a permanent plan change. Might as well change for a dollar a month and 5GB more data.
