I went back, exchanged the SIM for a new one, and they were able to activate it right there. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the replies. I tried again today and was still getting the message about invalid SIM, so I've contacted the moderator. If they can't help, I'll try to exchange the SIM card at Walmart. I'll let you know what happens.
