When is it appropriate to make a 911 call

911 is for emergencies only. A crime in progress or when life is threatened ex Heart Attack, Burglary, assault, fire, bad vehicle accident. 

Not for non life threatening things like a small collision where there’s only a small dent in the car. Call your provinces number (in Ontario it’s 211) for the non emergency number for these things

9‑1‑1 is for police, fire or medical emergencies when immediate action is required: someone’s health, safety or property is in jeopardy or a crime is in progress. Please use 9‑1‑1 responsibly. Our call takers can’t provide information on the weather, power outages or municipal services. Don’t call 9-1-1 and ask for the non-emergency  phone number. Those numbers are located at nonemergency.ca, the front cover of your phone book or you can dial directory assistance (4‑1‑1) to request a number.

Before cell phones we had pay phones and emergency phone locations along major highways.

Hey 😎  hey---- you boys and girls high -jacked my post regarding making voice calls. This is not about making unnecessary 911 calls.

When I stated emergency it was not a life and death situation. One should never tie up the 911 lines because their out of gas etc.

@Anonymous  I am literally laughing so hard right now. Car is on fire, middle of February you are in Gogama. There are literally no cars on the road...like zero.

"Don't call 911." 

This would be a really good sitcom bit, where two friends break down, Naepalm and z10 and we argue over whether we should call 911 or not. 

z10: No bro that's irresponsible don't call 911.

Naepalm: But our car is on fire.

z10: You know there are way worse things then this, let's just walk for 200 km

Naepalm: but bears

z10: dude don't worry about the bears we will be fine.

Naepalm: alright let's go

z10: RUN!

Naepal: why?

z10: We are being chased by a bear!

There are often mentions in the news about people calling 911 for frivolous reasons.

Yup. Start walking. Stick out that thumb. Maybe there's a house not far. People live out in the boonies.

I think that's an improper use of 911 resources.
