For my next car I'm thinking of buying a used VW GTI (2016-2020). I've heard that they are not that reliable especially compared to Japanese cars. But I really like them much more than the alternatives, which would be the Honda Civic and Mazda 3. I am looking primarily for a hatchback that has good cargo space, is fuel efficient, good performance and fun to drive.
What is your experience with these cars?

The reliability of any used car is no guarantee but since it will be a newer one chances are it will be just fine

VW's reliability has no comparision with Toyota, I heard so many bad stories about VW, but not toyota, I bought my first toyota matrix 2004 new, trade in 2011 for another toyota matrix, first one never had problems, 2nd one only had a ignation coil failed.

@elhota I like VW. I've had a Mazda. It drives smooth, quiet and it's fuel efficiency is good. I think you are making a good choice with a hatch back.
