What determines the price of domain renewal? Because last year domain renewal prices were much cheaper than this year. Does a domain registrar have to warn about price changes?

I chose Pananames registrar. And there prices for renewals are scheduled for each year, for 10 years in advance.

@Nasmerk If you find a good price, most registrars let you purchase a term up to 10 years at a time.

Yes, it would be nice if the price of domains was known in advance for a long time.

There are many reputable registrars, and theres no penalty to transfer your domain if you find a better deal elsewhere other than the time to work through the transfer process. If you see a better deal elsewhere, just transfer there. If the old registry contacts you before giving you the transfer code, they might even give you a deal or price match to stay. Transfer-in's add another year to the expiry just like a renewal, and often have promo pricing.
What TLD is it?
I frequently compare prices and transfer between the following registrars:

Greedy registrars?
Pandemic? Loss of domains due to business closures therefore loss of revenue therefore previous profit levels need to be at least maintained?
Whatever the market will bear?
