If a call is in your province (included in your plan) and is truly not long distance then the call should just connect without hearing this message: "Please wait while we connect your call; long distance charges may apply". There are people in the community that would like this message removed. My suggestion is to fix this issue if at all possible.

Thanks you.

I believe if you dial 1 ahead of the 10 digit number, this won't happen.

The 1 in front of the number doesn't work when you are travelling across Ontario. I guess the point is that the message should not be there. When I was with Freedom Mobile that message was not there. Rogers doesn't have that message either.

This is a Telus issue. Because Telus still has local minutes in their plan. I don't see the message going away anytime soon. Remember Telus owns PM. If the call is truly a long distance call you will hear it. But you won't be charged since this is all prepaid.

My cottage is in the same area code as me, but it's more north (519 is a big area code) but it's classified as long distance. If I call my parents back home (same 519 code) I don't hear it. I believe someone commented on your other thread why it happens too. But since Telus has local minutes and we use their network. Very low chance it gets fixed

I thought so but it is worth a try. I am okay with the message but others would like it removed. 🙂

On the Rogers network, the nag goes away when 1 is used ahead of the 10 digit number, so I thought it would work with Telus as well. The real solution is to get rid of long distance calls within the country or world for that matter. This is the 21st century, the internet has no boundaries, great firewall of China excepted.

I agree. We should get rid of long distance. 🙂

Not every call in a province is a local call.  Not even within the same area code.

just because Public Mobile has unlimited province wide calling, it doesn't make all calls local.

loccal vs. Long distance is a real thing.

if you're upset with the extra five seconds, put +1 in front of everything you dial.

Thanks for your response.

I am okay with the delay.

Fyi- I get the same message with or without the 1 in front of the phone number.

It's a CRTC regulation. Not everyone, even if we are all have long distance included, have free long distance. Telus has local unlimited only options on some plans. As a requirement of notice, that message is on there for people that still pay for long distance.

The 1 in front should definitely solve this this. That's unfortunate that it isn't.
